If you enjoy the writings of C. S. Lewis, G. K. Chesterton, George MacDonald, etc, you will love Charlie Starr's tale. I love the poignant moments in the middle of fantastical whimsy. My favorite part of the book is reminiscent of Lewis's conversation with a fictionalized MacDonald in The Great Divorce. You'll just have to read it and be delighted! The shorter chapters and simpler vocabulary keep it accessible to children, but in a way that only enhances the enjoyment for the rest of us. (Think Narnia meets The Little Prince.)P. S.
